DAWN & JAMES’ WEDDING AT POLMAILY HOUSE
Very happy to feature Dawn & James’s wedding from Polmaily House. Like most couples who booked their wedding in 2020, they had a difficult time planning their wedding with so much uncertainty and tight government restrictions. A couple of date and venue changes later, they settled on the beautiful Polmaily House as their venue in late August 2021. It was my first time shooting at Polmaily House and I really enjoyed it. Going to a venue for the first time is always exciting as everything is fresh, and it really focuses my mind on the task ahead. It’s different to a venue I have been to many times, when the challenge there is to find something I haven’t done before. But this was new and exciting. I arrived early to have a look around and establish where the main areas for photographs were. It soon became apparent I had lots to work with with beautiful scenery all around.
A brilliant day was had by all, and I can’t thank Dawn and James enough for being such a welcoming, warm, and all-round lovely couple to work with. All the very best to you both.

Why did you choose Andy as your photographer?
When we got engaged the first thing we decided was that we would get married back home in the Highlands. The second thing I looked at was a photographer, good photos last forever and I wanted to remember every detail. I spent a lot of time googling, asking for recommendations looking on social media etc. When I found Andy I really loved the relaxed natural style of the photos. Andy was ever the professional on the day however also really easy to get along with and after a while you kind of forget he’s even there snapping away, apart from when he says “Sorry Dawn, we’re going out on the grass again and this time its raining”. But the photos were worth it!! When I got the photos I must have looked through them all a million times a day. I loved the photos of us but my favourite thing was looking at the photos of our friends and family enjoying themselves, all those moments that we were too busy to witness we got to see in the photos.
Why did you choose Polmaily House as your venue?
We had challenges with a venue. We had originally planned our wedding for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic as we just didn’t want heavy restrictions on our day. The venue we had booked would still have had quite a few restrictions in place in August 2021 due to the size/layout of the place and as I just couldn’t imagine not being able to hug my Granny on my wedding day we were faced with finding a new venue 2 months before the day. We got so so lucky. One of our suppliers mentioned to us that they had heard of a new wedding venue near Drumnadrochit. We looked it up online and thought it looked ideal for what we wanted. We called them and they had just had a cancellation for that weekend!! We then called a caterer who again had only just had a cancellation for that weekend!! We also managed to get the marquee and furniture hired along with all of our suppliers moved to the new venue. I am so so pleased that we chose Polmaily House for our wedding venue, it was perfect! Chris and Debs the owners were beyond helpful and the house and gardens are beautiful…. And I got to hug my Granny!!

CEREMONY & RECEPTION
Did you have a particular theme, colour of feel for your wedding?
I don’t think I started planning with anything in mind. I spent a lot of time on pinterest and I liked the idea of everything being fairly simple but very pretty, as it was a summer wedding I knew I wanted lots of beautiful flowers. I found bridesmaids dresses in a pink colour and it kind of just went from there. I don’t usually like the colour pink so that was a surprise. I made or sourced a lot of the stationary and decorative bits myself but it would have been nothing without Elizabeth at Bothy Blooms. The day we met she asked me what I wanted and I just said to make it look pretty in colours to match. She did an absolutely amazing job.
How did you go about deciding your look?
I think simple but pretty flows into this aswell. I imagined myself in a lace dress, I would have said absolutely no way to a dress with gems or beads on it. But the day we went to casually try on some dresses for ideas I fell in love with the heavily beaded dress. I am usually a minimalist with hair and make up so I wanted the girls to make me feel special. My hair was more than I could have imagined from Hayley and Charlene made me look flawless, I wish I had them every morning. My jewellery was classic pearls but I wore a couple of special items. I wore an anklet with charms that my Granda gave to my Granny on their wedding day and a mint polo as my other Granda was never without a pack of polo’s.
What was the favourite part of your day?
After far too long of living in a strange world of lockdowns and distance, my favourite thing was having all of my favourite people in the same place at the same time. Seeing everyone having a lovely time was really special. However one moment that sticks out for me is standing ready to walk through our guests for our confetti photos, we both had a glass of champagne in our hands and as there was no where to put them down we just looked at each other and downed our glasses. James favourite moment is when I was stood staring at my bouquet during the ceremony, there was a wasp inside and we both giggled. We could just hear the bridesmaids and groomsmen running about trying to run away from the wasps.
